Registering

Last weekend Robbin & I completed the most consumer, materialistic ritual of the wedding ritual. We registered. Registries have their strong points; people want to buy you something you will like. But it also just reminds me how much the GDP goes up for each wedding. Robbin & I will be spending money on the hotel/caterer/reception, the clothes, the flowers, the DJ, etc; our guests will spend money to get to the hotel (either through a car or an airfare). Some guests will spend money on a hotel room. And then of course people may choose to give us a gift. Seriously, I am helping the economy by getting married.

We went to Bed Bath & Beyond on Saturday before a family dinner and essentially failed at registering. We didn't know what we wanted; the eager and friendly sales person demonstrated how strong fine China is by having Robbin stand on a teacup. That was interesting but we don't need fine China. Actually, no one needs fine China, but I happen to have my Grandmother's anyway. After 45 minutes and only registering for 10 frames, both of us were cranky, looking at the time & deciding it is okay to show up early to my mom's house for dinner.

On Sunday we went to Crate & Barrel. Oh what a difference a day makes. First of all, I want to buy most everything that is in Crate & Barrel. The past couple seasons I haven't been so hot on them, but I'm back to giving CB my love. I'm pretty sure Robbin even had a good time doing this. And now I have this ultimate wish list. And I'm pretty sure that makes be shallow and materialistic to enjoy this so much. Oh well.

I think in a few years I might pretend to be getting married again & go register. I just like the handheld scan thingy.
