The Drawing of the Three

Audiotogo does not always send you the books in order of your queue. For the most part, this isn't a big deal. However, when I put Stephen King's Dark Tower series in the queue, I didn't realize that those also could and would be sent to me out of order.
I received "The Drawing of the Three", the second book of the series the weekend before last. I read a synopsis online of "The Gunslinger" so I could jump into this CD without waiting. The audiobook on the way home has become a key ingredient in keeping me sane during my commute. With construction on the Edens and the Tristate continuing and the start of the Cubs season, I believe my dependence will only be growing.
Anyway, I enjoyed "The Drawing of the Three". It's been awhile since I read Stephen King and I had forgotten what a good ...although at times over detailed...storyteller he is. I think I will follow the rest of the Dark Tower series. Though to protect myself from receiving them out of order, I now only have the next one in my queue.

I have yet to finish the entire DT series, though I hear from reputable sources that it is worth finishing. I've read through "Wizard and Glass," which I found pretty weak, but it pays to stick with it, apparently.

I would definitely recommend reading "The Gunslinger." He wrote it quite early in his career (though it remained in a trunk, unpublished, until 1982) and the writing style is lot more spare than his later works--think of "Carrie," a slim, taut thriller, compared to the overwrought "The Tommyknockers," for example.

I haven't read much King in awhile--I grew tired of his hackneyed plots and, frankly, lazy writing style, but I've been meaning to get back into his work. Let me know what you think of the DT series and maybe that will convince me to finally finish the series!
