Bistro Campagne

I had high expectations which may be why I was underwhelmed. Robbin had called to make reservations the day before and asked for outdoor seating. We had an expectation that they would say, it's first come first serve. But instead they said sure, weather permitting. When we called yesterday to say we had only 5 not 6 in our party, he tried to verify the outdoor seating. At this point they said it was first come first serve. A little misdirection in the first phone call. If it wasn't such a beautiful night, it would have been less important.

The table wobbled so much it took a cloth napkin and many coasters that pregnent Kathy got on her hands and knees to put into place. There was a good 2 inch wobble in the table. They were out of a few items.

I had rabbit which was very tasty and a chocolate souflee was mind numbing. And yet I was still underwhelmed. I think part of the problem is that what I was really looking for a nice evening outside. I have wanted to go to Bistro Campagne for a long time but wasn't really in the mood for fancy French fare.

The service was pretty abominable, too. I'm still annoyed that she let me order the house salad, and didn't tell me that what I'd ordered came with the exact same salad. And, this is nitpicky, but when three people order desserts, typically they ask if anyone wants coffee (which I think the two non-dessert eaters would've taken). But, yeah, that's picky.

Your souffle was really amazing though, and I thought the cinnamon bread pudding I had was pretty good, too. The crepes were nasty, though, really soggy. Maybe it's better to go there late, sit outside, and have dessert? I don't know, but I was kind of disappointed, too.

I concur. The food was good, but really eating out is about the whole experience and whole experience - not so great. I prefer the good food, not so great experience to the reverse - good ambience, terrible food, which I abhor because I feel like they are just trying to trick me - but I expected more from this place. At least the company was swell.
