White, Part 1

For a long, long time, I knew I wanted a white kitchen. Right after college, my friend Heather lived in a coach house in Winnetka or Wilmette. She showed us the main house once and I fell in love with the kitchen. It was dark wood, stainless steel, and granite in the summer of 1999, well before every condo in Chicago was redone in that style. It opened up into the family room and I decided I wanted everything that kitchen setup had.

Except, I wanted white cabinets.

I worried that what I wanted might seem out of date, like someone who adores floral upholstered living room furniture. Then, slowly, I felt like my tastes were being validated. On the Food Network. Ellie Krieger had the first white kitchen I noticed. And now, most of them seem to be. And if you pick up a home design magazine, you'll see a lot of white in the kitchen.

Now, I worry that I have this white kitchen that I have always wanted and it’s going to be very dated in 5-7 years when we might move again.

I’m a worrier.

So much so that I have more to blog about on this topic, but it will have to wait for now.
