"I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone? "

My best friend from Jr. High, Anneliese, recently devoted a blog post to me. She's all kinds of awesome.

I love that quote from Stand By Me, which was released 25 years ago this month. I have some incredible friends that have been with me through so much. I know I'm blessed to have each one of them in my life. But there is a type of intimacy you have with your best friends at 12 that is incomparable. You're at your most vulnerable, you're figuring out who you are supposed to be; and your best friend witnesses every naked moment. Those circumstances continue to happen through highschool and college, but you become more guarded and less raw than you were at 12.

Anne and I have gone in and out of touch over the years, but she has always been with me.

Love you, Anneliese.

I miss you, Rachel!

I don't even want to think of Junior High without you there to navigate it with me. Thank you for your faithful friendship. You were the best best friend I could ever ask for.

I love you!

She is so right about you. Makes me see how long you have always been you and grateful to her for being part of it. BTW, I have always loved this quote.
